The Climate Liaison will support these communities and Tribes in developing, maintaining, and implementing adaptation plans as well as building community climate adaptation capacity through traditional knowledge sharing events, workshops, and training curriculum delivery.

  • Assists Kodiak’s communities and tribes in developing and/or updating climate adaptation plans, hazard mitigation plans, climate risk assessments, and emergency preparedness plans addressing tribal and community specific priorities. Identifies, plans, and executes work tasks necessary to accomplish program objectives and outcomes.
  • Works with NOAA’s technical assistance services for grantees to perform a Geospatial Technical Expertise needs assessment for climate adaptation and resilience planning. Assesses the extant data usable for geospatial analysis of Kodiak, assess community geospatial analysis needs related to climate adaptation, and identifies data gaps related to those needs which might require data gathering activities.
  • Building internal climate adaptation and resilience capacity through conference participation.
  • Coordinates to attend Technical Assistance sessions held by ANTHC with Interior and Northwestern regional communities.
  • Attends regular meeting with ANTHC and other partners in order to discuss progress, lessons learned, and challenges encountered in organizationally respective and statewide efforts.
  • Serves as the liaison between necessary agencies, outside partners, and contractors to facilitate project or program success. Assists in handling projects to ensure scope, resource needs, tracking mechanisms, implementation or business models, and desired outcomes are documented and in compliance with funder requirements.
  • Works cooperatively to develop, release, and award Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from Traditional Knowledge holders and experts to create and conduct events and activities for the City of Kodiak and the villages. Events will focus on sharing community members’ Alutiiq knowledge, language, experience with harvesting, and other practices
  • Works with Environmental and Climate team to organize and host workshops/trainings and other curriculum delivery events in the City of Kodiak for Tribal and community leaders to attend so as to close knowledge gaps and address the needs identified
  • Builds relationships and works closely with Kodiak Tribes and project partners to strengthen climate work in the region. Assists in identifying other potential partners.
  • Strategizes ideas for future programs and services based upon identified priorities. Identifies, evaluates, and supports the application processes for additional funding to support programs and projects that will enhance the lives of KANA beneficiaries.
  • Occasional travel to villages and off island. Some weekend and evening work for scheduled events and Tribal meetings.
  • Supports the development of joint collaborations and projects with other KANA programs to achieve program and association goals of assisting beneficiaries.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 


Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Project management or related studies. Relevant professional work-related experience, education or training may be substituted.
