Performs a wide variety of record keeping and multi-state payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, and processing final separation payments.

  • Performs activities necessary to process multi-state payrolls, such as maintaining related records, review, approve and process employee timecards, calculate payable hours, retroactive pay, bonuses and severance pay. Responsible for balancing and reconciling payroll data. Examines payroll data and documents atypical payroll transactions. Deposits and reports taxes according to government guidelines.
  • Prepares various payroll related general ledger entries. Determines the need for new accounts and revisions in the account structure.
    Performs periodic internal audits and reconciliations of various areas and prepares material for external or internal audits including the annual financial, worker’s comp, and benefits/401k audit. Inspects automated system output such as registers and standard reports, identifies and corrects out-of-balance conditions.
  • Reconciles and balances payroll ledgers, deductions and payroll taxes. Researches, analyzes, and identifies discrepancies and reporting errors and processes appropriate corrections.
  • Makes technical decisions requiring application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, policy, and law.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency.
  • Develops and maintains documentation of payroll procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and enhancements.
  • Serves as point of contact for payroll related questions and support in regards to KANA’s HRIS. Participates in the efficient setup and use of HRIS to ensure it is a user-friendly and effective tool for employees and managers.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, college level accounting course work preferred; two (2) years payroll, accounting, and/or benefits experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar credential required.

 

This position requires expertise in complex payroll and accounting functions, general principals of accounting, auditing, as well as significant, directly related, and progressive experience. Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements. Experience with Accounting and Payroll software, Internet, Database, Spreadsheet, and Word Processing software a must.

 

Proven experience and proficiency with payroll processing. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to reconcile complex payroll data. Attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to maintaining data integrity. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally. Strong organizational skills and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
