A multi-skilled professional clinical support member of the care teamThis position is responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of patients during scheduled clinics through joint planning and problem solving within clinic and office staffProvide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers, which include team members, patients, students, visitors, and vendors, by consistently exceeding the customer’s expectations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participates in daily team huddles, work with the team members to ensure appropriate pre-visit preparation including culturally and linguistically appropriate services; preparing treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assisting practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care.
  • Delivering compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
  • Welcomes and escorts patient to exam room. Prepares patients for examinations consistent with the purpose of the appointment.
  • Completes intake interview for new and returning patients according to established procedure including counseling patients/families on their role, and KANAs role in a medical home.
  • Completes patient screening, measure vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and record information on patients' charts following proper documentation guidelines.  Must maintain an accurate health history in the patient.
  • Records all pertinent elements of the patient encounter into EMR by providing real time charting; prints and provides the patient with a patient visit summary prior to leaving the clinic. Escorts the patient to the checkout.
  • Performs related duties necessary to ensure quality patient care as requested by supervisor, including addressing barriers when the patient has not met treatment goals.
  • Provides patient with printed education material, review and answer any patient questions within scope, notify the RN
  • when additional education is requested or assessed as needed.
  • Assist providers with exams of patients or any special procedures according to KANA policy and standing orders. Explain procedures and aftercare instructions.
  • Perform screening tests including vision, audiometry, EKG, pulse OX, and peak flow meter at the direction of the provider.
  • Give medication, injections or treatments, and perform routine laboratory tests.
  • Administer treatments including, nebulizer, oral medications, pediatric and adult vaccines at the direction of the RN, standing orders or provider; observe patient, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify Medical Provider of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Call patients to report normal lab and other normal diagnostic results, followed by sending results letter to each patient. Request medical records from other health care facilities as needed.
  • Clean and stock rooms, disinfect exam room tables, treatment and lab surfaces daily; prepare and sterilize clinical instruments. Review expiration dates for sterilized equipment and re-sterilize equipment as needed to ensure a readily available supply of sterile instruments.
  • Process phone calls or portal communications from patients, routing as appropriate, and responding in a timely manner. Schedule qualified  patients  for  appointments  based  on  established  protocol,  identified  need,  and  availability  of appointments; follow up with patients/families who have not kept important appointments.
  • Monitor and maintain routine population health screenings located in the EHR and other patient registries as appropriate. Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and procedures in accordance with CMA scope of practice and KANA protocols and standing orders.
  • Responsible for knowing and following clinical policy and procedure, including documenting all patient interactions in Cerner in a manner consistent with professional standards.
  • During KANA Specialty Clinics, room patients and assist visiting Specialty Provider.
  • Ensure compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA and quality measures according to AAAHC accreditation and HRSA clinical measures.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to complete training and/or clinical hours for CMA certification within one year of employment.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

CMA certification within one year of employment or current CNA license. Current BLS and CPR.
