The Kaguyak Environmental Supervisor is a part-time position and will help manage the EPA IGAP program by working closely with the Kaguyak Environmental Coordinator (KEC) and KANA Program Manager (KPM). This role ensures the program runs smoothly by meeting regularly with staff, monitoring progress, and acting as a liaison between KANA and the Tribe. Responsibilities include assisting with hiring, scheduling, and evaluating the KEC, ensuring program goals are met within budget and regulations, reviewing reports, keeping the Tribal Council updated, and attending Kaguyak Environmental Program meetings (in Kodiak or remotely) to strengthen relationships, planning, and financial processes.

 

This position is located in either Akhiok or Kodiak.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Supports the organization’s mission and goals and quality standards. Incorporates KANA’s core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride in all activities and decisions.

  • Upholds KANA’s Code of Ethics by conducting professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, and good faith in a manner that reflects positively upon the organization.
  • Assists in planning and implementing program activities to ensure work remains on track and aligned with established goals.
  • Helps maintain organization of the Tribal environmental office and supports the part-time KEC with administrative and office management tasks.
  • Verifies that all workplan commitments are met in accordance with the approved budget and applicable laws and regulations, notifying the KPM if adjustments are required.
  • Meets regularly with the KEC and at least quarterly with the KPM to review program activities, ensure compliance with guidelines, and address any issues that arise.
  • Collaborates with the KPM in the hiring, scheduling, and evaluation of the KEC to ensure effective staffing and performance.
  • Reviews environmental program reports and keeps the Tribal Council informed of progress, ensuring the KEC is aware of upcoming Council meetings to provide updates.
  • Travels to Kodiak or attends meetings virtually to participate in Kaguyak Environmental Program discussions, relationship building, and administrative or financial planning as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides direct supervision to the Kaguyak Environmental Coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in environmental studies, natural resources, or administration preferred but not necessary if candidate has relevant experience. Cultural and community knowledge is valued equally to formal education.
