The Wellness Center Personal Trainer is responsible for the development and delivery of 1:1 personal training services, self-led workout programs, fitness challenges, and group classes. The Personal Trainer will conduct standardized fitness assessments and create customized personal training programs appropriate for participant’s age, ability, and goals. They will provide regular support, follow-up, and accountability for participants. Create, promote and participate in Rehabilitation Services programs and department activities, and other department activities as assigned.

- Provides personal training services for KANA Beneficiaries and Veterans. Develop comprehensive progressive fitness programming for 1:1 clients, self-led clients, small group training, and group classes to support and motivate participants and ensure a positive overall experience.
- Utilizes online and virtual tools to enhance programming and allow remote/distance delivery to increase access and participant engagement.
- Applies evidence-based approaches to improving mobility, flexibility, strength, stability, agility, and power as appropriate for each participant. Maintains record of participant baseline, goals, and progress for outcomes and department reporting.
- Conducts on-going fitness consultations for participants, including movement screens, needs analysis, and goal setting in order to recommend appropriate fitness programming and complementary wellness services.
- Maintains a weekly schedule that meets the needs of clients and allows both early and late 1:1 slots and group programming, potentially as early as 5:30AM and as late as 8PM, dependent on Group Fitness Instructor and other Personal Trainer availability.
- Orients new participants to the facility. Review facility guidelines, hours of operation, safety protocols, and instruct and monitor participants on safe and effective use of available equipment.
- Instructs safe and effective group fitness classes, manage class schedules, and develop class promotion materials to increase access and participation. Works with other Wellness Center staff to ensure a minimum of 2 group classes per day.
- Works collaboratively with medical providers and physical therapists to ensure patients with chronic conditions are well-managed.
- Maintains positive client/patient experience by providing the highest quality of service. Promptly responds to incoming requests, return messages in a timely manner, and direct requests and questions to appropriate staff member or department when needed. Provides customer service support for phone calls, registration, check-ins, scheduling, cleaning, and other duties in accordance with department procedures.
- Collaborates with KANA Communications to advertise classes and personal training to improve class attendance and utilization of 1:1 personal training slots.
- Stays current with emerging exercise and health research and methodology and apply new knowledge to improve participant outcomes.
- Maintains personal training certification by complying with continuing education and training requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, and/or functional fitness preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Certified Personal Trainer (ISSA, NSCA, NASM, ACE), Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM), Certified Fitness Instructor (ACE, NETA) or equivalent required. Candidates who are not certified but have adequate education and/or experience must complete certifications within 30 days of hire.
Current CPR and First Aid certificate. Candidates who are not certified must complete training within 30 days of hire.
