The Community Catalyst will identify resilience priorities within their communities, design and implement projects to address community needs, build local capacity to carry out projects, and collaborate with local entities and communities across the region. Projects will be rooted in increasing local resilience, with the goal of advancing the community’s ability to respond effectively to challenges and changing conditions. Interested applicants may be someone who is already working on applicable projects within their community, or has a passion or an idea for helping their community.

 This position is supported by the Alaska South Coast Partnership (ASCP), which is a growing network of community leaders responding to the challenges and opportunities of the Alaskan south coast (the Alutiiq and Eyak homeland). The Community Catalyst is responsible for serving as a connector between their home communities, the Kodiak Regional Resilience Catalyst, and the ASCP.

Preference is given to applicants residing in the villages of Akhiok, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, or Port Lions, although applicants residing in Kodiak will also be considered.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supports the organization’s mission and goals and quality standards. Incorporates KANA’s core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride in all activities and decisions.
  • Upholds KANA’s Code of Ethics by conducting professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, and good faith in a manner that reflects positively upon the organization.
  • Identifies community needs as they relate to resilience (i.e. environmental, economic, cultural challenges) by communicating with local leadership and community members.
  • Works closely with the Kodiak Regional Resilience Catalyst to design and implement a project that improves community resilience.
  • Builds local capacity to carry out proposed projects.
  • Works with the Kodiak Regional Resilience Catalyst to secure funding for projects through grant opportunities and other avenues.
  • Collaborates with local entities and communities across the region.
  • Participates in all Alaska South Coast Partnership meetings, retreats, and communications.
  • Collaborate with other catalysts across the partnership to share knowledge, ideas, challenges, and solutions.
  • Travel bi-annually to Anchorage to attend ASCP retreats and bi-annually to Kodiak to meet with supervisor and team members.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in environmental or related fields preferred. Cultural and community knowledge is valued equally to formal education.
