All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate.
KANA’s standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours on site per day).
Pharmacist responsible for assisting the Chief Pharmacist in the operation, management, planning and execution of all KANA Pharmacy services for the Native people and Veterans of the Kodiak region. Services are delivered in an outpatient medical clinic setting with a patient centered medical home and team-based model of care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Assures availability, preparation and control of medications and pharmacy supplies in support of clinic operations.
- Participates in maintaining a system for purchasing medications and maintain financial records of such purchases in accordance with policies and standards established by the KANA Accounting Department.
- Provides computer entry/verification of medications as ordered by health care providers after reviewing medication orders to assure appropriate medication therapy, including, but not limited to evaluation of: indication, allergies, interactions, safety, effectiveness, and compliance.
- Counsels patients on use, effects, characteristics and expected outcomes of all dispensed medications. Assures appropriateness of therapy and assist in monitoring therapy for patients.
- Maintains pharmacy in professional, sanitary, and secure manner; maintains a concise, accurate, and legally acceptable system of prescription and dispensing records and make these available without notice to any appropriate and legally designated auditing agencies or departments of agencies upon request.
- Focuses on team-based, patient centered care in an outpatient medical clinic setting. Works closely with pharmacy technicians, medical providers, dentists, nurses, medical assistants, front desk staff, and administrative support staff. Will also collaborate with other support services across the organization.
- Provides medication therapy consults with medical and dental providers, CHA/P, and other health care providers as needed.
- Serves as a medication information resource for medical providers, dental providers, and clinic staff and interacts in a supportive and productive manner.
- Assists in providing pharmaceutical information and training to clinic staff members and Community Health Aide/Practitioners (CHA/P) as assigned. Establishes professional working relationship with each CHA/P and village medical provider
- Works with pharmacy automation equipment including robotic filling system and remote dispensing system to process medication orders and provide medication to areas outside of the pharmacy.
- Provides clinical pharmacy services including anticoagulation clinic services.
- Provides clinical supervision to pharmacy technicians in all technician duties.
- Provides health promotion and disease prevention activities relating to medication use, preventative medication therapy, and drug misuse.
- Participates in professional trainings and continuing education courses as necessary to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skill levels, and licensure.
- Ensures total and uncompromising standards of patient confidentiality in the establishment and maintenance of all patient medication records, allowing no unauthorized person access to these records in accordance with KANA policy.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directs, verifies daily activities, and supervises tasks of pharmacy technicians, but does not serve as a formal supervisor.
Requirements
Doctoral degree in pharmacy (PharmD.) or bachelor of science in pharmacy; and outpatient pharmacy experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Current State of Alaska Licensure as a Pharmacist.
