All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate.

 

KANA’s standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours on site per day).

 

Provides Laboratory clinical services in accordance with KANA’s mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures while applying standards of CLIA, CMS, and the Laboratory profession’s "Best Practices” while working with clinical staff, demonstrating leadership and providing work direction.  Provide proficient laboratory testing services performing all areas involved in pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic testing; Perform acceptable delegated responsibilities as designated by Laboratory Director.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines, accreditation requirements, and quality control standards. Assists in establishing and maintaining a quality control program for testing, monitoring acceptable performance levels.
  • New Test Implementation: Participates in evaluating and implementing new test methodologies or instruments.
  • Operates testing procedures accurately, verifying results and maintaining records following guidelines.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyzes and reports laboratory data accurately and timely to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborates with other departments for patient care and effective communication of results.
  • Training and Proficiency: Assists in delivering training programs for lab staff, ensuring proficiency in testing techniques and safety practices. Completes training and proficiency testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, etc.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assists in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintains accurate records of lab activities, test results, and quality control measures.
  • Inventory Management: Helps monitor inventory levels and coordinate procurement of supplies.
  • Patient Interaction: Occasionally interacts with patients to explain test procedures and ensure comfort during specimen collection.
  • Research and Development: Collaborates on research projects, exploring new testing methods and technologies.
  • Participation in Meetings: Attends lab and department meetings, contributes to discussions on improvement.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Safety: Supports the lab's emergency response plan and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Professional Development: Stays current in the field through education and engagement with professional organizations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not directly supervise staff. This position may serve as support for Laboratory and lab-trained Clinical Staff. This position may provide counseling and training as needed.


Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or relevant Science Degree that is nationally registered or licensed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent. Minimum one (1) year of general laboratory experience.

Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing situations, developing, and implementing appropriate solutions; must be able to effectively and efficiently make decisions independently.

Strong interpersonal are required as well as effective writing, speaking and reading comprehensive skills.

Ability to work independently without close supervision.
